About Salt Cay
Balfour Town is the main settlement on Salt Cay, which is one of the smallest islands in the Turks and Caicos archipelago. The town is located on the western side of the island, facing the Caribbean Sea.
With a population of around 60 people, Balfour Town is a quiet and peaceful community with a relaxed atmosphere. The town has a small collection of historic buildings, including the White House, which was built in the 1830s and served as the residence of the island's salt merchants. Today, the building has been restored and is used as a museum and cultural center.
Other notable landmarks in Balfour Town include St. John's Anglican Church, which dates back to the 1800s, and the Salt House, which was once used to store the island's salt. Visitors to Balfour Town can also explore the island's natural beauty by taking a stroll along the sandy beaches or hiking along the rocky coastline.
Despite its small size, Balfour Town has a few amenities for visitors, such as a charming beachfront bar & restaurant, and a couple of guesthouses. Visitors can also take a short boat ride to nearby Grand Turk, which has more extensive services and amenities, including a hospital and an airport with flights to other islands in the Turks and Caicos and beyond.
